How Can You Get Involved?

Activate your voice in ASG! Did you know that you are an ASG Member as a student of the University of Arkansas? As a member we encourage you to express your ideas, attend a Senate Meeting (Tuesdays, 6 pm in Bell Engineering Auditorium), meet with an ASG Senator or Executive member. Visit the ASG Office (ARKU A669) and become active in your student government. Also, check out our upcoming events on the ASG Calendar or ASG Website. We look forward to your participation today!

ASG Executive Branch: The Executive Branch is comprised of the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and the Chair of Senate. All of these positions, except the Chair of Senate, are elected through a campus wide vote at the end of the spring semester. The executive branch is charged with carrying out any legislation that is passed by the Senate, representing students in the University’s decision and policy making process and working with constituents across campus and within ASG to deliver the best possible services to the students of the University of Arkansas. For more information about each position and its duties please see their position descriptions in the ASG Constitution and Code.

ASG Senate: Senate is the legislative body of ASG. It is made up of 51 senators who are elected by the students in each academic college. The Senate is charged with addressing academic and non-academic concerns of the student body and working with constituents to address these concerns through legislation and partnerships.ASG Senators are elected by the students within their college in an online election at the beginning of the fall semester at http://vote.uark.edu. If you miss this opportunity vacancy elections are also held for open positions in November and February of each school year. We look forward to your application and participation in the upcoming election.

ASG Judiciary (ASGJ): Any student can apply to be an ASG Justice. Justices are appointed by the ASG President and approved by the Senate. ASGJ interprets the ASG Code and Constitution.

Attorney General: serves as a regulatory agent for ASG and investigates any claims of misconduct. The Chief Justice appoints the Attorney General, who is then confirmed by a supermajority vote of the ASG Judiciary. The Attorney General attends all ASG Senate meetings and serves until the justices are sworn in at the beginning of the fall semesters.

Executive Cabinet: The Cabinet consists of multiple positions appointed by the ASG President. The Executive Cabinet works closely with the student body on a wide range of issues. Each Cabinet member is selected to work with a specific aspect of campus life.

University Committees: Many university committee assignments are applied for through the ASG Vice President and then approved by the Senate. View a full list of University Committees online.

Fresh HOGS: This program is designed to build leaders for future government positions in an exciting atmosphere. Participants learn about all aspects of student government each fall and are placed on a planning committee for a large scale event that will be held this spring. Participants in this program are also able to participate in the Emerging Leaders program each spring.

ASG Committees: ASG Committees are responsible for assisting the ASG Senate and ASG Executive Cabinet in defining student concerns and improving student life at the University. ASG invites all students to participate in ASG committees. Applications for committee involvement are available for the following committees: Press Relations, Parking and Transit, Campus Safety, Constitution and Code Review, Academic Affairs, Athletic Relations, and Readership. The committee members will be responsible for meeting regularly with their committees in order to improve campus life at the University.
